Power line gambles on the sun
(North County Times) A San Diego utility's campaign to obtain permission from a state agency to build a 150-mile power line across the backcountry of San Diego and Imperial counties hinges in large part on a huge gamble, project opponents and energy analysts say. The gamble is that a Phoenix company's plans for a massive solar power plant in the Southern California desert, unlike anything the world has seen up to this point, will be successful.
Solar power for health centres
(Daily News) Health centres and dispensaries in the country, which do not have electricity, will be supplied with solar-powered generators courtesy of former US president Bill Clinton. Mr Clinton told President Jakaya Kikwete when they met here at the weekend that he has already lined up several sponsors whio will help in the exercise. The move follows the former US leader's pledge he made to Mr Kikwete when they met in Cape Town, South Africa, last month.
BPC taps solar energy to electrify villages
(Republic of Botswana) otswana Power Corporation will next year start electrification of 88 villages through the solar power programme. Principal Energy Officer in the Department of Energy Affairs, Kesetsenao Molosiwa said the project is expected to take five years.
Solar energy permit process eased

By altering its permit fee structure, Solano's building department will be able to issue permits for rooftop photovoltaic systems - an alternative energy source increasing in demand as energy costs climb - cheaper and faster.
