Solar energy: cheap and efficient
(Political Affairs Magazine) According to mechanical engineers at the University of Wisconsin's Solar Energy Laboratory, an average four-person household with an electric water heater needs about 6,400 kilowatt hours of electricity per year to heat their water. Assuming the electricity is generated by a typical power plant with an efficiency of around 30 percent, it means that the average electric water heater is responsible for about eight tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) annually, which is almost double that emitted by a typical modern automobile.

Largest Solar Project In US Slated For Colorado
(TheDenverChannel.com) Xcel Energy selected a Baltimore firm to build a $60 million solar electric plant in Colorado, the largest solar power project in the country, the Rocky Mountain News reported Saturday.

Solar power costly up front
(Akron Beacon Journal) The sun came up this morning, so you can rest assured that solar energy is shining through once again. It can heat your water, power your light bulbs and provide a swell tan. All you need is the correct equipment. But the question remains: Is harnessing the warmth of the sun worth the trouble and expense?

Wind, solar power have yet to take off
(Akron Beacon Journal) Determining the popularity of solar power in homes is difficult. "People are out there doing solar and wind; they are just under the radar," said William Spratley, executive director of Green Energy Ohio, a nonprofit group that promotes environment-friendly energy. The business of installing solar equipment remains small.
