Solar-Powered LEDs to Light Up US Air Bases in the Middle East
(RenewableEnergyAccess.com) After successful field trials at two different U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) bases in the Middle East, the USMC has ordered a number of Carmanah Technologies Corp.'s solar-powered LED general illumination systems (Model FP-50) for an air base in the Middle East. And the U.S. Air Force has purchased Carmanah's Model A704-5 PSALS for portable, emergency and permanent defense and civilian operations for the Salerno U.S. Air Force Base in Afghanistan.

(Los Angeles Daily News) aving the planet and making money don't often go hand in hand, but at Sean Shouhed's carwash in Van Nuys the two are perfect companions. Shouhed spent $677,000 to install solar panels on the roof of his business this summer, making Valley Car Wash the first automotive cleaning outfit to run on energy captured from the sun's rays. With state and federal rebates worth $273,000, Shouhed, 50, will break even in 10 years, he said.
Rooftop PV System Funded by SunEdison and Renewable Energy Fund
(RenewableEnergyAccess.com) The Connecticut Clean Energy Fund, SunEdison and Whole Foods Market recently unveiled the 121-kilowatt solar photovoltaic system installed on the rooftop of the Whole Foods Market Distribution Center in Cheshire, Connecticut. The collaborative project was funded in part by Connecticut Clean Energy Fund, which provided a project grant of $516,223. Ten percent of the 150,000 square foot roof will supply 10% of the facility's total energy needs.
